Too expensive or worth it? Canon 35mm F1.4L II USM Preview

Canon has not updated their 35mm F1.4 lens since it's introduction in 1998. I know many photographers who absolutely loved this original lens for the quality that it created and how well it was built. http://froknowsphoto.com/canon-35mm-f1-4l-ii-usm-preview

There are always improvements to lenses that can be made and in the just announced Canon 35mm F1.4L II USM they have introduced a new type of optics called "BR Optics". BR Optics stands for "Blue Spectrum Refractive" and is supposed to cut down on the chromatic aberration.

This lens clocks in at $1799 which is a lot of money for a lens but only you can determine if it's worth it for you. I personally do not use a lot of fixed lenses and prefer something like a 24-70 2.8 for it's versatility. But if you're looking for extremely sharp photos wide open this lens is sure to allow you to do that.

The main question is what do you shoot with a lens like this. I think it's a great photo journalist lens, it's not to wide and not to tight but allows you to capture a nice angle. As far as a street photography lens, I think it would handle itself very well.

What do you think, would you purchase this or would you stick with a zoom?
