The Statues of Forest Lawn Cemetery

Just putting this online temporarily to share with a few friends and business acquaintances. I will be removing in a week or so.

This is one of many projects I'm doing. Considered a Buffalo landmark, Forest Lawn Cemetery had its first internment in 1850. Anyone who was anyone in Buffalo is buried there including President Millard Fillmore, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, arctic explorer Dr. Frederick Cook, musician Rick James and many others.

I've been fascinated by the statues and sculptures that adorn the gravesites and open areas of the cemetery. My project is taking photographs of the statues -- many well over 100 years old .

This is a slideshow video from the statues I photographed my first day shooting the project.

When the project is done, I'll be posting the photographs on my personal website.

Three cameras and three lenses were used. I did not want to crop in post or at very least, crop minimally hence why I'm using multiple focal length setups.

Nikon D850 with a Nikon 24-70mm Lens -- used for the statues that were closer and could be framed in that focal range. Most images shot at F2.8 for minimum depth of field.

Nikon D800e with Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 Lens -- used for the statues that were further away -- most often high atop a mausoleum or gravestone. Again, most images were taken at F2.8 for minimum depth of field.

Fujifilm X-T3 with Fujifilm 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 Lens and Fujifilm 1.4 teleconverter. -- Used only to photograph the statue of the little boy and the fountain that are in the middle of Mirror Lake. Both images shot at F8.

All images processed in Lightroom then Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
