To paraphrase Newton...for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. If we call the introduction of digital photography the action, then we might also say that the keen interest in vintage techniques and processes is a reaction. A new generation of photographers seems to be nostalgic for the imagery of past generations.

One technique that has gained in popularity is TtV, or 'Through the Viewfinder' photography. TtV is simply using a digital camera to shoot through the viewfinder of a vintage camera. Many of the older cameras have dust or mold in the lens or viewfinder...and this is a good thing. It creates the grungy, aged look that is prized by TtVers. The preferred vintage camera is a medium format twin lens with a waist-lever viewfinder. The set-up of a TtV shooting system requires the use of a hand-made 'contraption' (the apparatus that joins and aligns the digital and vintage camera).

This class will include: examples of TtV images and the types of cameras used to create them; examples of contraptions; instructions on how to measure and make your own contraption; and post-processing tips.
