This was a different type of website critique to do because of what the about page said. It's the website of Stephen McCloskey who has served our country and now turns to photography as a way to cope with his injuries.
Reading his story and why he does what he does really left an impression on me. The fact that he turns to photography as a way to cope is eye opening. It shows how there still can be joy in capturing images.
I will say the images on Stephens site are very good. He seems to shoot a little bit of everything and he does it all well. The colors are vibrant, the editing is crips and solid but I only had one issue. My issue stems from the dutch angles in the images, I am not a fan of them.
Let's talk about the "donation only" payment system. Stephen explains this very well on his site and it makes total sense. This is what he loves to do and he wants to share it with as many people as possible. The way he can do that is to allow people to pay whatever they want in the form of a donation.
I went ahead and paid for his next year and a half of squarespace so he doesn't have to worry about that payment for a while. That is my donation to him and does not even come close to the sacrifices he has made for me and the country.
